Society of Illustrators
posted mon, feb 11, 2008
This is a reminder to have submissions in for The Society of
Illustrators Student Competition turned in to Alice Carter ART 225 by Thursday on February 14 at noon.
- The work must be on a USB drive 72dpi, RGB, JPEG, at 500 pixels on the longest side (horizontal or vertical)
- All pieces must be named and include the name of the instructor(Granner/ Man on Globe).
- You may submit as many pieces as you like. Entries cost $5.00 per piece, cash only and will not be uploaded until fee is paid
Here are some thoughts from this year's show chairman, Scott Bakal concerning the competition. At last year's awards gala for the student show, there were so many people in attendance that people were spilling out into the street. There were just as many professionals there as there were students. Let's see as I remember it Chang Park, Yuko Shimizu, Marcos Chin, Randy Enos, Brad Holland, Chris Spollen, Wiliam Low and a bunch of art directors were there. One in particular, Irene Gallo from Tor books. Probably one of the more famous A/D's for Science Fiction and Fantasy books. She actually hired the student that got one of the awards to do a cover this year!
Plus, and yes, I am boasting about it: This competition is the best
student competition for illustration in the world. Not entering it is
silly. It's not easy to get in?actually HARDER than the
professional show. But check this out?this is a SMALL list of
professional illustrators who are working today that got into the
student show:
Peter deSeve
John Jude palencar
Robert Hunt
Matt Mahurin
Eric Joyner
Wendy Popp
Kam Mak
James Bennett
Tim Bower
Tim O'Brien
Glynnis Sweeney
So there you go entering is a no-brainer.
